Social awkwardness at its best : not going back to Subway for 2 years because you said "yeah" instead of "oregano bread" to an employee that probably worked there for three months.
Something like that happenned to me in Paris. I ordered in French, and since French isn't my native language and it was my first time ever in Subway, it got a bit confusing, because when the employee asked "Pain?" (That means bread) I thought he said "...à boire?" (Which is like something to drink).
So I said I want Coke. I fucking told him I want Coca Cola as bread. Holy fuck.
I can say I blame the noise around us and my shitty hearing for not understanding properly, but that won't change the fact that it was awkward as fuck and I looked like a stupid tourist who can't speak French for shit.
Though I must say, otherwise I managed quite well. The rest of the order went fine. Yay, I guess?
