I've had several friends that were cops, and worked a lot with the police when i worked in an ER. From my experience, 1/4 of cops are jerks, but only a small number of the jerks are actually bad people/cops. Most in law enforcement are really good people. It just sucks that the bad ones are so bad, they really outshine a lot of the good ones.
I've heard parents use the police as a threat, and I hate it. It's just a bad as parents who tell their kids that unless they behave, the doctor will give them a shot, or the dentist will their teeth.
I don't get why some parents do this. Once in a mall, I walked past a little kid throwing a temper tantrum and the parents told the kid they were going to the police if he didn't stop.
You never hear about the 3/4 of cops that do their job effectively and responsively. The news prefers to comment on the 1/4 that harshly abuse power and use excessive force.
Cops and pirates are the same type of person. A pirate will kidnap a family member, take them away from you, hold them captive against their will, and only return them once you pay the ransom. A cop will arrest a family member, take them away from you, hold them prisoner against their will, and only return them once you pay their fines or bail. Pirates hijack ships, police impound cars. It's basically the same thing.
Pirates break laws for fun and attack the innocent.
Police defend laws and protect the innocent.
Imperial Japanese soldiers went all across the pacific to take islands.
US Marines went all across the pacific to take islands.
Hitler won over a nation through passionate speeches and some violence.
MLK and Malcom X won a nation through speech and violence.

Just because some things look similar doesn't mean they are anywhere near being the same.
