Like I've said before higher education isn't a right its a choice. Higher education is part of the economy and in a capitalist nation the government won't step in to change it. Thats why health care and hospitals cost so much.
Craft skills and the military don't require higher education. They require physical ability and they make just as much as many who go into higher education for less money
Also not everyone wants to be a crafter or go into the military ? Maybe someone wants to be an optometrist or something that not a lot of schools have classes on.
What does wanting to be an optometrist have to do with anything? If somebody really wanted to be one, there are plenty of options to get it done. Lots of scholarships available, both for general purpose use and those specific to a field like optometry, plenty of loans available (even cheap ones by the government that "isn't helping") Depending on where you plan to work you can even get a lot of your tuition just outright paid for. For most doctor degrees a lot of places will pay for your tuition as long as you sign a contract saying you'll work for them once you graduate for X amount of years. If you plan on going to a smaller rural town, there are also a lot of grants to help get doctors out of the cities and into smaller towns.
.
None of thats what they were talking about though, they were just saying several ways a person could get a "livable wage" without getting a bachelor's degree+
