You just gotta break it off and start over.
There's no point in struggling to save it.

At that point, I throw my pencil VERY HARD into the trash, so it knows what its done...

It is even worse when you start writing, but then it breaks, so you have to erase the mark, THEN make the walk of shame back to the sharpener.
