Same thing basically, inflammation causes the iris to adhere to either the lense of the eye or other structures. Not surprisingly left untreated causes blindness.
This can also happen during cataract surgery if the surgeon isn't really careful with the suction instrument used to take out the old cataract. The pupil is a muscle, and can tear just like one in your arm or leg. Once of the doctors I used to work with was developing a mechanism to protect the iris during surgery, because this was happening so often with unskilled surgeons. He even showed me videos of surgeries where the pupil was torn. Not something i recommend to look up on youtube unless you have a very hard stomach.
