It made my heart really warm and fuzzy like "aww everyone should do this"
and then I realised. Obviously its nice that they did it, BUT IT REALLY SHOULDN'T BE SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO ACTIVELY ACKNOWLEDGE. Its things like this, where people get congratulated for something that should happen in society without the need for congratulation. So yeah, good job them for being one of the first to do it, but fundamentally, its something that should be done by everyone anyway. Like yes, its important that they start the idea, but it's kinda sad that its something that's surprising in our society and deserves congratulations.
edit: wow sorry for the massive rant don't hate me I just wanted to say a point
Was that good they did that? Sure, why not. Does everyone need to do this? No. Does this need praise? No. The point of having models for clothes rather than just pictures of it or mannequins is to see how it fits a body. Her body is normal as any other and a standing model gets the work done for the shirt I'm assuming she's modeling.
Your right, a catalog is meant to showcase what the company/store has for sale. But if thats all that matters to customers, they companies would only need pictures of the clothing on a mannequin. What's at here is marketing. They're attempting to not just sell you clothing, but also a lifestyle, a message and emotion. It's feel-good marketing meant to ensure repeat buisness.
You can buy a sweater from hundreds of different retailers. People want to give money to companies they feel represents their ideals, they want to buy from companies who are "good". Retailers spend huge amounts of money on their companies image to gain customers favor. The fact that people are talking about this specific picture in Nordstroms magazine means theirmarketing and PR teams are doing a great job.

3 long Comments and one short comment with downvotes
This is NOT the first time Nordstom has had a model in a wheelchair. They also use seniors in their ads. Should everyone do it, yes..because the world is made of all kinds of people...
