"Tranny" I believe is considered to be a sexist slur. "Trans" is a more acceptable term I think.
Both biological/birth genders can be trans by the way. I think that M2F might be more common, but there are some biological women that are transgender to male.
Yeah "Tranny" is widely considered to be offensive in the transgender community. "Trans(*) woman", "transgender women", MtF (male to female), or simply woman would be excellent choices to describe such a person.
And smitty I think ftm's are just as common as mtf's, I think the difference is in the ftm community we aren't as well represented in media. We don't have our own Laverne Cox or Janet Mock.
Now that you mention it, it does stand to reason that the two should be equal in number. I guess I let the media influence my assumption on the population.
