Yeah, he said that, and yeah, he was right about it. But here's the thing: it was inevitable. The voting system we have will always result in a two party system. We want representatives who actually represent us, but moreover we want our votes to matter. Voting for anymore other than the majority party is often seen as throwing your vote away, and smaller parties will always join the bigger party they share the most ideals with eventually.
This is literally a problem that existed before Washington took office. He could see the problem with the two party system, but failed to realize its inevitability.
The only real solution is to change the way we vote fundamentally.
