No, he's a cop. The store manager got killed. It says that he was hit by a stray bullet and told his wife that he is going back to work the next day.

To answer your question, vlek, he wasn't part of the SWAT team, but was an officer, dressed in his uniform with a bullet proof vest and no helmet. He was braver than any of the SWAT though...
