When I got my braces off they came off really easy. I think they just got pliers and pinched the brackets, it seemed pretty straightforward. Those rings around your molars though...I think they almost shattered my jaw taking those out.
In all honesty, it was the hour after getting them taken off that hurt most. You're so used to having the pressure of having something press into your inner lip that when it's gone, it's so painful. Imagine your hand for foot fell asleep and then it suddenly wakes. Not that tingly-tangly feeling first, just BAM wake up. All the blood rushes in and it feels like you're dry shaving your lip.

It'll pass in less than an hour, just forewarned.
We also have to remember though, my molars were always pretty tight up against my other teeth and the back of my jaw. Unusually tight. If you're more "normal" than me, you'll probably have an easier time.
Hopefully. Although I definitely think I will like not having metal rubbing up against my cheeks all the time. My cheeks get stuck in them a lot and it really hurts.
In the Gone series they mentioned a girl who out grew her braces while they were all trapped in the FAYZ.... If I remember correctly she attempted to remove them with a wire cutter but screwed up and ended up with wire sticking out of her mouth and the inability to close her mouth any more
