There's a law in place that protects "good summaritans" and if you try your best to save someone's life and they still die then you cannot be prosecuted.
At least, that's a law here in Canada. I don't know about other countries.
USA has the Good Samaritan law. It also includes the condition that you help without expecting reward. And once you commit to helping, you help to the fullest extent you can.
