Bagged milk is used a lot in Canada. You buy a jug to put the bag in, and cut a corner off to pour. It means you can buy 4L instead of just 2L. A 4L jug or carton would be pretty unwieldy.

It's actually used a lot here in Dominican Republic and you just drink it out of the bag

But wouldn't it just spill everywhere when you opened it?

You just cut the corner a little bit and then basically squeeze it into your mouth. They also do it with juice.
