It started out like "not this again" then went to "oh dear god the feels"

I'm still kind of mad at this guy, because losing a loved one is not a good reason to stay in a relationship that does not make him happy. Find someone else, do you really have anything (more) to lose?
Every relationship has its ups and downs. If you expect a relationship to be perfect with no fights, you're kinda disillusioned (no offence intended, honest). This guy said whenever they fight, he didn't say how often.

Having ups and downs, alright. Crying "I miss you" on your ex's grave every time you have a fight with your GF is something else.
Also, I have been in a relationship with the same woman for three and a half years now, and there were no fights whatsoever. Misunderstandings sometimes, but not a single fight. That stuff happens.
Well, then you certainly have your relationship down to a science if you haven't had a single fight. True, telling his ex that he misses her may not be a great idea, but bear in mind, he didn't break up with her, she died, those feelings don't just go away.

I keep this in mind, it's just that if his current relationship does not help him for his closure, maybe he should try something else, like, I don't know, anything except staying with her.
