I got the Death Note for Christmas (rules are in there, as are the names Light wrote), and it says nothing about it. I would personally think that nothing would happen.

I'm pretty sure that in the show they said that nothing would happen if you did that. The only way to kill a shinigami is for them to use their death note to save someones life.
