Because they are part of a VASTLY misunderstood breed. I have two friends and 3 cousins who own pits and they are among the most friendly dogs I've ever meet. One just wants to sit next to you on the couch and put her head on your lap. The others just want some attention and the occasional scratch. They aren't violent they are just misunderstood.
The vegan part, well I'm not commenting on that.
Yea, thanks for bringing that up diyrogue. My friend wanted a dog good with her nieces. She was going to get a puppy but she thought she saw pitbull in it, because there was a pitbull in it she didn't adopt. Instead, she bought a shepherd, who is currently herding the little children and biting anything that moves. Pitbulls are awesome, don't shame.
No breed of dog was ever known as a "nanny dog." That's an absolute, total fabrication spread by pit bull advocates.
It's the pit bull's single-minded tenacity when attacking that makes them dangerous. Things that would distract or deter any other dog from an attack (kicking, punching, stabbing, hitting with sticks) won't even phase a pit bull. Like it or not, it's in their nature.
Have you EVER seen a vicious pitbull with an owner that wasn't an asshole ? Cause it honestly seems to me that the only time I see bad pit bulls in real life is when their owner is being attacked or their owner locks them up in cages and lets them fight other dogs.
And they can be trained to be nice, all animals can. There was a family that adopted a lion and it was just like a giant pet and never harmed them and they had it for years.
Well people are terrified of pitbulls and so they have to be reassured that they aren't dangerous
Vegans will tell you about how terrible you are for eating meat even when you don't know them
Im hoping to get it into the popular section. From what im seeing all the comments are against it.

It really isn't the same. Vegans want to brag about their lifestyle. Pitbull owners tend to need to explain about how nice their dog is. Pitbulls are very misunderstood, by ignorant assholes who assume they're vicious, violent dogs. Any dog, including pitbulls, can be mean; depending on how you raise it.

I have a pitbull/chocolate lab mix, and he is the sweetest thing. People are just scared of him cause he's huge and thinks he's a lap dog, and jumps on people when they come over. lol

Now if someone wants to hurt the owner, don't depend on that nanny dog whimpering in a corner......The hurter will need a hospital.
ALL dogs are horrible and dangerous!
- if they have the wrong type of owner.
ALL dogs are wellbehaved and loveing!
- if they have the right type of owner.
Dogs are breed for specific behavior patterns, and traits.
Pittbull dogs were made for exactly that, being a bull in a pit, they're just a bag of muscles and meat with jaws specifically bred to clamp, and lock onto their target (for the final kill),
Your dogs may be the sweetest things on the planet, but they've been bred to attack and kill, they're YOUR dog, and they're a territorial breed, don't tell me that they'll treat me with the same fear and respect they treat you.
I've met plenty of Staffordshire bull terriers and pitbulls, both nice and Shite.
Please don't insult our intelligence, and generalise by saying they're all a wonderful breed, because it's taken centuries to breed them to kill, we've only been breeding them as pets for decades.
I know I'm going to get downvoted here, because of mob mentality once that one dislike pops up, and that I'm going against the common consensus, but please go ahead, it doesn't invalidate my opinion, just your opinion of my opinion.
Actually, the locked jaw thing is a total myth.http://www.pbrc.net/mediacenter/mediaqa.html
And animals aren't just vicious animals. Like with people, it's usually hoentheyre brought up. Like a lion in the whild will tear animals apart to eat. But then there was that family who adopted one when he was young and he was just like a big pet.
There's no such thing as bad pets, just bad owners

kingswitcherii - your beliefs are why people tell other people their pits are nice. Pits have only been bred to fight very recently. They are big, tough looking strong dogs, so the jerks started breeding them to fight. They've actually been used for longer than that to take care of children. They are very gentle, loyal dogs and big tough looking, and strong. The perfect combination to protect children.
Sorry, you really shouldn't lie to get your point across.
That's a complete fallacy, they were bred to bait bulls, its lock jaw was developed to be able to hold onto the bull, and made smaller, and more muscular to prevent it from being hurt too badly when the bull kicked off...as an alternative to sheep dogs that can't grab shit.
.
Your beliefs/lies are why my four year old niece got savaged, and why my best friend got bitten and now has a permanent scar on his leg, and why understanding can never be reached about this breed.
.
While these are isolated incidents, the Morden world of dog breeding has been working hard to eliminate ferocity from the breed, but it takes more than a few decades, and less interbreeding to rid an animal of such traits.
If I want something loyal to protect my family, I'll go for something more like a GSD, or a Newfie.
.
We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, I've cared for lovely staffies and American staffies, but I still don't trust them.
And that is exactly why people need to tell others about their pets because of people like you.
And yes, the locked jaw thing was a total myth, they just bite hard but their jaw doesn't lock.
And my beliefs didn't cause your niece to get mauled or why your friend has a scar. That's because they encountered bad dogs that might have felt threatened. Though I don't know the complete story who's to say they weren't fucking with the dog first and caused it to chase them ? And my point still stands that good owners don't have dogs that attack nilly willy because it's all the owner.
I was there, there was no fuckery.
The dogs were pedigree show dogs mate, again, don't try and wriggle out of the fact that these dogs were bred for agression and power.
No, your beliefs didn't cause what happened, but your refusal to believe that it's possible that some breeds of dogs just haven't had their wild streak tamed out of them, means that these dogs are not treated with same respect of a different species, hence suppositions are made.
I'm not saying they're are all bad, and I've even stated this, but you just refuse to accept the possibility of this breed just not being perfected yet.
How long do you think it took to get a GSD, or Lab to the dogs we know today? Dogs have a different "class", sheep hearders, gun dogs, retrievers, dogs breed for rescue etc, and of course dogs bred for fighting.
They're engineered for these traits!
It's not all the owner, if you're going to credit a dog with some degree of intelligence, then at least understand that a nasty dog will bite.
But it takes a nasty owner to make a nasty dog. Just like no child who was raised properly will be a complete douchebag, dogs raised properly don't attack. You could say just as easily that all dogs come from wolves and therefore they're all killers, that doesn't make it true. Pit bulls have a bad rep because of dog fighters, despite the fact that German Shepherds, the dog you quote as being so safe, has a reputation of having the /most reported dog bites a year/, higher than any other breed of dog. In Australia, German Shepherds are the third most likely to attack a human. Oh, and... According to the National Geographic Channel television show Dangerous Encounters, the bite of a German Shepherd has a force of over 1,060 newtons (238 lbf) (compared with that of a Pit bull, 1,050 newtons (235 lbf)... Oh, and they're a relatively new breed compared to most others. Yes, Pits were bred for fighting, but that doesn't make the breed a bad breed.

Hurting the dog either makes the dog fearful of you or show extreme hatred towards you. I have seen my mom hurt my dog numerous time, and he barely loves her and only lays down next to me because everyone else finds it funny to hurt him and tease him(Don't worry, he doesn't have like 90 bruises on him or anything like that).

Yeah. This was years ago.The person who owned the pit bull said things like that had happened many times, and she loved the pit bull to much to put it down.Just recently,it tried to attack my rabbit, who luckily was in a pen.
Pitbulls kinda remind me of Julius Caeser. Lots of people dislike pitbulls because they have the ability to harm people. Caeser was murdered because he had the power to harm Rome.

I gave this a thumbs down because when I say I have a pit bull, I get the "look" and usually they say something before I can say what a sweet heart Jack was and Lady is.
I live where the breed is actually banned. You can't own them and if found, they will take the dog and murder it. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
I love dogs too. I am both a pitbull owner and a vegan and I find the picture funny because most pitbull owners are as annoying as a vegetarian or vegan. They have to announce it before you can even say hi to them.
Yeah, but as stated, with pitbulls, most people are rather afraid to approach them, so reassurance is needed. With vegans, no-one really cares if you're a vegan. I'd appreciate it if someone let me know their pet isn't violent.
The vegan part, well I'm not commenting on that.
