Dear Americans on funsubstance, have you ever witnessed a tornado / hurricane? I'm from Europe and I can't imagine what it's like (I think I would freak out). Can you describe the feeling? And is it really so quiet like they say in the movies?
I was stuck in hurricane Katrina. She beat me, stole my cattle, and made a mess of everything. Since then I've gotten an anti-hurricane system on my house.
Never been in a tornado proper but have seen a few in the distance. Hurricanes are just really windy massive storms that can do a lot of damage but can also be fun. Played many a game of Ultimate Frisbee in hurricanes. Oh yeah I'm also from Florida so that might make me a bit jaded when it comes to them. We were ranked third for the most tornadoes in the country last year just so you know.
Where I live (and it's not even in Tornado Alley) we get tornado warnings a lot and the sirens blare, but 95% of the time you never even have to go in the basement. Usually it's just a severe thunderstorm. Have seen a few dust devils in the area, and sometimes they knock down garbage cans or open gates, but nothing too bad. It is pretty scary, though, and I've seen funnel
clouds form a couple of times
while driving, but they never touched the ground, or they only became dust devils. I've been in one or two tiny earthquakes, and my mom went outside during a hurricane when she lived in NC, and said it was terrifying.
^^ same guest from above. It is definitely NOT quiet. Hurricanes are really windy and pour down rain, so that's loud. I've heard that a tornado sounds like a freight train too.
I've moved now... back to New England. Not sure which I would prefer at the moment now though.
Relentless heat & humidity down there or ceaseless digging up hear.
I'm in Tennessee and they are caking for 8 inches of snow tomorrow so it is either one extreme or the other. I would leave the south though. To much culture!
And kentucky is right on the border of weird moon like land thing and hot soup air, meaning it is moon like and doesn't rain for like a month then you literally get 2 weeks of nonstop rain. Fun times
tornadoes, are very common

Not just for Canada anymore.
