Now Im not religious at all, I am an atheist. I do not understand why people wouldn't vaccinate their children due to religious beliefs. IS there a religious person on FS that can explain it to me. I wouldn't hate on their reasoning....Im on of those kinds of atheists, its pure curiosity. I would honestly like to know the thought process behind it. Thanks!
From what I have heard, then again this is from my factual debate class, that some Catholics and Christians are against it. Not 100% proven obviously but i wasnt sure if that was true.
I'm pretty sure the whole mistrust for vaccines doesn't stem from religion, but rather from wearing too many tin foil hats to keep the aliens and government from brainwashing you and your family. People will always have crazy theories and even if the government were to put trackers or something into the vaccines, I would much rather have my child alive.
Nah, man, I'm pretty sure tin foil hat people will vaccinate their kids most of the time.
People not vaccing them mostly comes from a biased report from like 30 years ago and the man who wrote it actually got his medical license taking away because he had the theory they caused autism and admitted to fucking with the numbers to get his result.
And people tend to believe the first thing their hear, and so much like the eating spiders in your sleep, many people still believe that.
My kid has all her vaccinations. However I have a friend that has an autistic kid. The doctor surmises he suffered some brain damage from an allergic reaction to preservatives and additives in medication or vaccines (injectables). He has a severe peanut and egg allergy. I think the original studies inked additives in the injections, not the vaccinations themselves. We do not do the flu vaccines though (this year's was wrong anyway), my wife had to one year cuz chemo but got sick from it and her doctor advised against it the following year.
I'm sorry, but speaking from the position of someone on the Autism Spectrum, even if there was the possibility of Autism being caused by vaccinations it is well worth the risk. This is especially true when you consider that the children without vaccinations would be going to schools and would greatly increase the risk of making their classmates sick with easily preventable illnesses.
I'd rather have an autistic child who I can love than a child who died before they could count past ten.
Wasn't there something about the leading cause of death among children under 5 being dying from preventable diseases ? People not getting their kids vacced is the main reason they die ?
It wasn't a rumor. There actually was a guy who messed with the results of his study on purpose so he could " prove " vaccines caused autism. He wrote a book ( or something ) on it but got his medical license taken away when it was found out. Sadly, people still think it's true because they " don't want to take the chance "
Thanks for correcting me, I think it's really sad people " don't want to take the chance" Even if this was true, I would rather have a child with autism than one that is dead.
That's why Autism Speaks is so bad. No one on the board is autistic and many of the members have admitted to rather having a dead child ( and thoughts of killing their child ) than an autistic one.
And like barely any money goes to research.
That really is horrible. I mean killing your own child! And it's pretty dumb barely any money goes to research, I thought it was their goal to help people with autism and cure it!
I think someone said they were an " awareness " group, but I'd rather have my money go to research. I mean, I don't know what having autism is like so I have no place to say but I think a lot of autistic people would be estaticed if there was a cure.
Money should go to research, not awareness. It's like making amazing commercials and posters for a movie, then it ends up looking like a crappy 12 year olds YouTube videos because all the money went to advertising.
My position on the spectrum is fairly close to that of neurotypical people, so I can't speak for those with such high-level autism that they cannot function in society, but I personally wouldn't want a cure. I like me. I like that I'm not normal. Yes, I struggle when I'm asked to analyse a poem for emotional stuff, but I'd much rather have those problems than be someone who isn't me.
Kamatsu, I totally get where you're coming from. You're you and that's part of what makes you you. I wouldn't be the same without my cynical realism but there's a lot of people who think I'd be better of being optimistic. I know it isn't the same though.
Pokethebear, I have to disagree with you and that doctor. Besides the fact that I and my sister had identical allergies and didn't develop autism after vaccines, the cause the doctor came up with makes no sense. Autism is not caused by 'brain damage'. If your friend's kid had developed autism from that, they would be famous worldwide for identifying the currently mostly unknown causes of autism. Autism is not that simple.
How? .....wut? How do people fail to understand that autism isn't something you can get but rather something you are born with because it's an "imperfection" or differently wired nervous system. That would mean you cannot develop throughout life by getting vaccines or get from other people. How are people so against this, but fail to do any actual research?
