Yet people say men are trying to exclude women from being a geek or gamers, no it's just that (at least i am) we are, scared? , of going to date a girl or even befriend them and they turn out to be like the girl in the picture.i for one LOVE it when a girl is a geek, and that's the type of relationship i want.
I think she people refer to the exclusion of women in the gaming community is usually about how you get neckbeard guys who when they see a female employee they make her do something like recite the entire cast of a video game from a decade ago or she's not a real gamer.
I've never experienced the "female hate" in person, and I've seen a female working at a gamestop unharassed. But i do agree that there are men out there who can be pretty severe. I've also noticed , somewhat, the "fake gamer"with males also.
Yeah, I've seen " fake gamer " for both genders, but I've met more females. There were a lot of girls at school who would talk about playing COD or Halo but then the guys would say they suck at it whenever the girls were playing with them.
It's a bit more complex than that. Playing games makes you someone who plays games, but playing games regularly on a competitive level is closer to the definition of a gamer. I understand how it could be confused, but there is a real difference.
"playing games regularly on a competitive level is closer to the definition of a gamer". Just playing games regularly is enough and playing on a competitive level is not a requirement to be a gamer. There are many people that prefer to play single player modes, alone, no competition what so ever, are they lesser gamers?
Another example; my friend only plays the single player modes of games like Uncharted, Assassins Creed and Elder Scrolls, he doesn't care about multiplayer but plays these games on a daily bases. Is this guy less of a gamer then someone who solely plays COD online?
Exactly. Why does it have to be competitive for someone to be considered a gamer ? There's plenty of games, like the guest said, where people like the single player modes.
I SUCK at fps games but I play whenever I can. And I'm casual because there are other people in my house to play games and so I let them okay as well.
I should still be considered a gamer even though I don't do it like you said.
I stand by my earlier claim that there shouldn't be a requirement to be a gamer besides playing games.
Now, understand that I was giving a very BASIC definition. It varies from person to person, and game to game. There isn't really any real measure, but somehow you always know whether or not someone qualifies as a "gamer". It's an extremely confusing concept, and I apologize if I offended anyone. That was not my intent.
Out of line, thehatman. He has a point, and I'm willing to accept that. Granted, it comes off as a little rude, but I'm looking past that. Please do not insult the guests, and do you honestly think he'd WANT an account after the way you treated him? Shame on you.
I'm a different guest and I have an account(I just can't login.) I play most RPG's and Open-World games. I still do not consider myself a gamer, as I only have access to said thing about 3 days a week(but I still play for like 8 hours that days.) Is that reason enough to consider myself a gamer.
Oh, definitely. I consider myself a gamer, even though I can only play on weekends because of my job. It's not about he amount of time that goes into it, it's about the amount of heart.

And yes, I do realize how cheesy that was.
Hi, I am the 'prick' guest that commented on phoenixsenshi's first comment and I'm sorry if i've offended you, phoenixsenshi, in that comment.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for standing up for me against thehatman, you were spot on why I don't create an account. When I do comment as a guest I try not to step on people's toes, but hey, it's the interwebs. Due to thehatman's comment the 'different guest' had to apologize for not logging in, which is absurd in my opinion. So as a guest I find your respons classy and therefor I thank you.
On topic: On your later comments I completely agree on your definition of a gamer. And yes, I also realize how cheesy I sound.
Oh, it's no problem at all! In fact, I believe you helped me to narrow down the definition. There are ruder people on the internet, and the fact that you apologized, in my book, makes you one of the best people I have met on the internet.
Another example; my friend only plays the single player modes of games like Uncharted, Assassins Creed and Elder Scrolls, he doesn't care about multiplayer but plays these games on a daily bases. Is this guy less of a gamer then someone who solely plays COD online?
