If you're in a car crash, how would firefighters pull you out? Through the windows? That would be hell.

Not to mention that without the roof support of the B-Pillar in a rollover you become a pancake.

I'm willing it could be modified for use with 4 door sedans, trucks etc. The firefighter thing would need to be figured out though. Perhaps a "master" hinge type thing that simply allows the door to be pulled down without having to go in under the body?

Firefighters could get the door open regardless of how it opens, that's why they have a not so little tool called 'the jaws of life'

1. Added cost
2. Added complexity
3. There are cars that have the Check Engine lights on full time and people don't get those fixed. What would it be like when the very doors fail?
4. How much more are you willing to pay for that? At the beginning, blind spot cameras were over $2000!
