That's what any Mac user will say. But is the lightness really worth having a quarter of the storage and a fraction of the features of a much cheaper windows laptop? When I was looking for mine I found a great one but it didn't have a disk drive so I had to scrap that one and look again. I know they're dying a bit but I doubt they'll ever be completely gone. Thank you for having a source
Have you ever used a mac? I disagree that this has a fraction of the features of a windows computer, other than the lack of ports, but if you use wifi for most things, that's not a huge issue. Other than some software, macs have all the same if not a few other features than windows (in fact I have windows 10 in a virtual machine on my mac http://www.pcworld.com/article/2824227/how-to-install-the-windows-10-technical-preview-on-a-mac.html). And you also won't find a 1 tb ssd for any cheaper than $400, so I can't imagine a computer with 4 times the memory would be cheaper (unless its a regular hard drive). Admittedly, I am a mac fan, but that's because I had 2 pcs crash in 2 years (1 on the morning I had an exam I was taking on that computer). I recommend you use one for a little while before you just assume that higher spec numbers actually make a better computer. Also, if you found a computer you like, you can get an external disk drive for like $30.
Don't let me convince you to get rid of your optical drive, but I doubt many computers will have them in 5 years (dell already charges extra for one added. http://compreviews.about.com/od/cddvd/a/Death-of-PC-Optical-Drives.htm
Think if it as the floppy disk drive, when is the last time you used your A drive?
Sorry about that crash man that's unfortunate timing. I just don't like how yes you can do most of the same things as a regular laptop but you have to have an external disk driver, do things over WiFi instead of with a hard copy, that kind of stuff. I just don't see the point in doing that. I have a 17 inch powerhouse from HP that has all the ports and storage I could ever need and I love it to death. Its a great computer. I do realize people have different opinions so I don't really want to argue to the ends of earth about this. Its mainly just a personal preference if you're a windows or Mac person I think its safe to say? Not due to differences in hardware, usually its software is the deciding factor, and in the case of macs, their looks play into it a lot, as I can't see the point of having a macbook air if it wasn't that it looked so thin and was portable or whatever your reasons are
Sorry to ruin your fun Kibbles, but I'm not going to get into a huge argument either. I just hear people spout off all the time about specs and how Mac "can't compare", but since they run completely different systems its not really oranges to oranges (apples to apples would be a little too literal). I was just really disagreeing with your first statement about no hard drive and disc drive, and actually being able to do things on its own. If my 2011 macbook didn't work great, I'd consider buying one of these, I'm just waiting for it to be upgraded to 16gb ram.
Glad you enjoying your computer.
They can be used for different things. A Mac is pretty powerful for the size, and extremely portable, but I prefer Windows more. The interface, and the amount of stuff. Like it is a lot more complicated to do some things like modding and editing the files of programs. I have a $2k and it runs amazingly. Everyone can have their opinion, snd I respect yours
This isn't a MacBook Air. It's actually the "new macbook" Apple thought that they should make an even thinner laptop so they made this. It uses a core m processor that only runs at 1.1 ghz. There is also only 1 port. It's a USB type c. So you have do everything through that one port. Including charging. So Apple is sacrificing a lot of power and functionality for a thin device.
That's kind of the point, they redid everything... This picture is from Apple.com (its about 2/3 of the way down the page) https://www.apple.com/macbook/
Thanks for the link.
I'm still baffled by it though. The PC has to have RAM in it, but I don't see any ram chips. It's also stated to have a Broadwell-M CPU in there, but there's nothing recognizable as one of those either. Maybe they're on the other side of the PCB...
