Laptops can run software to allow a DJ to mix tracks, add samples, and generally do cool things. But the DJ needs to know how to use it and must be skilled. I've got serious respect for DJs who know how to toss in cool transition effects between songs or mix songs together, regardless of whether or not they use software.

Ppl really pay to be in the rave environment. It's not like you go to an edm show to see a performance. That being said djs aren't just pressing play on a song they are mixing live

If you think this is what really happens, check out Destroid: they are a live dubstep band, and they play EVERYTHING live using MIDI controllers (and a live drummer).
