The message they are teaching the child. Telling him repeatedly "be a man," "don't cry," and "don't let your mom see" is terrible. Fighting through the pain is fine, but then say something like "You can do it" or "Fight through it." He is a child, and the only thing they will accomplish is 1. making him feel bad and 2. teaching him the wrong meaning of "being a man."
