First of all, I hope you realize that Frodo didn't actually write this.

In the Lord of the Rings, Sauron is a malignant spirit and sort of "possesses" the Dark Tower. He doesn't have a physical body anymore so what he probably means is that he'll take his spirit and sit in the lava and try and command an army from there.

Sorry by "actual thing" I meant that there is a real back story and process that can be applied to it ^-^. And that's crazy! I had no idea that Sauron was a spirit, but it makes far more sense though with the dark tower. So what would happen to him if they were to just knock it down? Could he just go off and posses something else?
They can't knock it down. It was also built on the Ring's power and only with the destruction of the Ring can the Tower be truly destroyed. In the book (and maybe in the movie) it says that the Dark Tower was toppled but the foundations of Barad Dur (the Tower) couldn't be destroyed because it was built with the power of the Ring.
I don't think he could "possess" anything else but in the events in The Hobbit he did inhabit Dol Guldur (the ancient fortress in Mirkwood Forest). Sort of how like a ghost haunts a place I suppose.
