Whatever helps a person through the grieving process is up to them. If seeing that on his chest even makes him smile for a second then there's nothing wrong with it.

You know, despite common belief, the heart is actually located in the center of the chest - between the lungs.

It's located behind and slightly to the left of the breastbone. Not necessarily smack in the middle, just a bit to the left.
