My aunt did this for her son. She was the only one in the family that had a match with him (besides his untested brother who's estranged himself from the family).
I'm surprised they let him do it. They usually don't let a person donate if they're at risk for developing kidney disease later. And his blood pressure would be a big warning sign for me. I'm glad they could do it though. I'm still waiting for a donor for me, although one of my friends is working to lose weight so he can donate. Nothing says "I love you" quite like offering an organ to someone. 8-)

I guess it depends but having untreated high blood pressure can cause damage to your kidneys and make them lose function over time.
