If the zombies were caused by a virus then they wouldn't have to worry about the corpses underneath because they would not have been infected. Plus, I think at this point they are just bones and zombies need a brain to reanimate.

Then the entire world is screwed because if all the corpses in the world are reanimated no one is going to survive for very long, unless they have a self sustaining boat base
