It's an artistic representation. it's not meant to be 100% realistic. They way she is sitting and how it frames the image are used to show things the artist wants you to see. it shows the way you are meant to perceive her. Its an over dramatic representation. I don't see you questioning this http://abduzeedo.com/files/originals/15.png .We all know that superman or batman aren't the depiction on an average person. It's impossible for a person to look the way they are portrayed. it's meant to be that way for a purpose. comics are meant to be over dramatic.
Let me give you some more:
~ pro tip for artists - no ones hair actually looks like that. omg just draw normal hair
~ pro tip for artists - the steam from the drink doesn't even look like that in real life. have you ever SEEN coffee hurr durr
~ pro tip for artists - stop taking creative license and expressive yourself, you have to do everything the 'right' way, my way. I know, because I'm a tumblrina who knows everything
their doing this new thing you may not have heard of, but it's called making a joke. Yeah it's art and their own representation but they as artists are always open to criticism
Pose of the subject is always and has always been one of the most important aspect of art. Her pose here conveys vulnerability without making her seem dependant. In the past, statues of generals would be posed to convey a certain amount of pride or dignity.
.
Also: you people are going to criticise a pose for being 'unrealistic' ( yes, some of you may be joking, but some aren't) from a comic strip where the main character can shoot spider webs from his wrist, in a world where gods exist and some guy who got hit by radiation can turn into a green giant when angry, instead of just having cancer.
I never said it wasn't an important aspect of art, i said it's independent of the style.
Different art styles do not have set ways of posing characters, the posing is independent and relies on the artist separately to the art style.
That isn't a pose for comfort. She's sitting like that because she's thinking about Peter and is sad. It's a mopey pose. Look at her face and what is in her room. Specifically, where is she looking to? The picture is really very self-explanatory. None of this pretentious crap should even appear.
