I guess that it's not so much that they are being glorified for their sexual orientation but rather they are being respected for the fact that being true to themselves makes life inherently more difficult for them and yet they still choose to be open. I respect and would give glory to that type of courage any day regardless of whether it's associated with sexual orientation or gender identity or anything that requires that kind of bravery.
Have you ever heard of Michael Sam? They get over glorified. I could not care less who you choose to be as a human, but you don't deserve to be praised for coming out.. sure it's 'brave,' but it's your business, keep it that way.
"I could not care less who you choose to be as a human"
Are you implying that you choose to be gay or not? Also if someone comes out of the closet they should at least get a bit of support and honor for a while so they don't regret is like shit.
What religion? You do know that Christians hold both sides...

Megadancer200, what makes you think it is a choice? I'm not being a dick, I really want to know your thought process. It seems like you're a "live and let live person".
My interpretation is that they wouldn't do it but don't care if others do. I'm the same way with pot, I don't think it's right and I also don't care if you blaze it
Idk why but I really like gay guys. I dont think theyre superior or whatever and I know some can be asshole just like anybody else, but mostly I think they're adorable. I fangirl.
As someone who is gay- thank you for finally saying it. Its stupid when people try and make themselves high and mighty because they are different than someone else.
It's strange that for a lot of societies now, people are scared of coming out not because they feel as though society will reject them (although that fear is still there) but they fear people will go around going 'hey guys I have a gay friend and I'm totally cool with it! Look at me, being cool with a friend that is gay! We are so bestiesbecause I'm so supportive of gay rights!'
That's just what I think, and I think it's annoying.
Exactly. In our history we discriminated pretty much everything that isn't a majority.Non-hite people, women, left handed people and now it's mainly homosexuals.People just don't like those who are different even if they can't change who they are which is quite sad.
Or even the reverse; those "minorities" or "different" are hailed as brave for standing up while I'm just like SHADDAP AND LET ME READ IN PEACE I DON'T CARE YOU'RE GAY GO FUCK A WATERMELON OR SOMETHING
I think I feel the same. Maybe.
I know several people who will say "I love gay people!" As if being gay automatically makes them a decent person. Shitty people come in all different shapes, sizes and colours. No group is excused from this. Being gay doesn't make them a bad person but it isn't a pass to automatically be a good person.
As a note, I don't feel gay people do this, I find it's straight people who say this.
Uhm, sorry, but who exactly would "over glorify" people for being gay? I do not believe this ever happens in real life, and I mean real, what goes on tumblr stays on tumblr. So ths is actually a dumb meme (outside tumblr, there it would be a troll posting...)
Tons of people. I went to high school in California, and being gay meant you were automatically a superstar. There were "Gay Appreciation Days" every month because someone on the leadership council was lesbian and no one dared oppose her for fear of being labeled "discriminatory." The "Senior Ditch Day" was changed to coincide with a Gay Pride parade and that was made the event instead of the traditional beach party. I had a former friend who changed his orientation (yes, some people are born gay, but you can also choose to be and your brain can eventually change) solely for the popularity boost. And in local news, if a team worked on a project or a bunch of people contributed to a newsworthy thing, if anyone was gay, they got all the focus. And it was in a "gay people are so much smarter/more athletic/artistic/etc. than other people!" way, not a "they overcame discrimination" way. I also had someone tell me to "just try being gay" and was then labeled a bigot when I refused.
As a bisexual I can say I agree. There seems to be an attitude that if you're gay you can do no wrong, it's like people thinking if you're black you can't be racist.

Exactly! I'm also bi and have seen that attitude a lot. But if you're bisexual you don't get that attitude at all. Quite the opposite sometimes, like people don't belive you.
I'm currently listening to my best friend argue with her boyfriend over the fact that he doesn't want her to hang out with me anymore because he thinks she's gonna cheat on him with me.
Are you serious?? The media and society glorifies straight people. And usually gay people don't have a way to cope with this sort of discrimination. stfu
Dont be so mad, guest. Theres nothing wrong with straight people, its just that theyre most common. The commercials and media goes for the biggest target. Its not discrimination, more like something they must do to keep their business going. And Ive seen a lot of commercials with gay/lesbian people. Its getting more popular to come out. People arent as judging, even when it still hurt when someone is.
