People who abuse animals need to serve long prison sentences. Here's an idea, maybe with what they put the animals through. Double or triple the time to let them experience what they put a usually helpless creature through. Some may disagree with that, but I do not care.
Many animals on this planet we share are very intelligent and have feelings, emotions, and can feel many of the things we do. Many can even feel more. There is no excuse for abusing an animal, yes this includes humans as we are animals as well. If you have to abuse another animal to feel better then you need to just report to prison.
