How dogs drink water

I always thought it lapped from the top until I saw a similar gif a few months back

this makes me so uncomfortable

The tongue really reminds me of a cobra's head, when the whatcha-call-it is out/furled/spread/I-don't-fuckin-know.

Believe it or not I sometimes looked at my dog to see how he drank water like that. I wonder no more and it's weirder than I thought

isn't this really inefficient tho?
