I was told the little mermaid DID kill the prince at the instruction of her sisters but felt remorse and died of being heartbroken (and then she turned to foam)
Maybe that's another version of it? There are so many. In the original one she stands in front of the sleeping prince, the knife in her hand, just before sunrise but she loves him so much that she can't kill him eventhough he does not love her the same. She throws the knife into the ocean and jumps in, dissolving into foam. She wakes up as a "daughter of the air" which do not have an immortal soul (just like the mermaids). But if she does good deeds and tries to do good with all her heart for 300 years she can get an immortal soul and go to Heaven.
OMG now I realize that the book I used to have as a child told the REAL stories o.O I always thought it was written by a dumbass who didn't know shit about those stories
Actually, Beauty and the Beast is based on a true story connected to a castle. A king found a young boy covered in hair because of a genetic disorder that was not known of at the time. The king raised him to be a prince, but no woman wanted to marry him because they feared that his feral side will come out in the wedding bed and he will end up killing them, so he is very lonely. But the king decides to arrange a marriage for the boy, and the boy treats her very kindly. The night after they marry, she faints from fear. She does end up falling in love with him though. They have three children, I think
