Actually this is false. The Goblin shark is one species that is caught by fisherman on a regular basis on the southern side of Japan. Around 30 EACH YEAR are caught.
A few have also been caught and put in aquarium type habitats but only survive for a few days/weeks. Their meant is often dried and salted and then sold but that's really it. They are not a targeted species and they have definitely been seen more than 50 times since its discovery.
