Taxes aren't insanely high, just high. And we don't have to pay thousands of dollars everytime we're in the hospital. And the best universities are free. The average yearly salary is 65,000 dollars in Norway. So even though we pay more taxes than Americans, we end up with more money than you after tax, despite paying more.
Ahhhh... Nationalist right-winged Americans... I thought the Declaration of Independence said “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” not “Life, liberty and the pursuit of obscene wealth.”
It was intended that 'happiness' was actually 'property'. Life, liberty and the pursuit of property. Owning property is fundamental to a capitalist society like the USA and it is the basis for the vast majority of the property laws in the
States.
People are naturally going to prioritize themselves and their own. How is it selfish to want to keep what you've earned, but not selfish to force someone to give you their's?
.
As for inequality? Mind getting a bit more specific?

Explanation for the selfish part:
Capitalism encourages greed. But greed is only good for capitalists. For normal people it is anti-social and soul destroying, not to mention very bad for our communities, which rely on altruism, compassion and a generalized concern for others.
Explanation form the inequality: It's simple, for the system to work, it NEEDS inequality of wealth, if not, there is no capitalism.
But Im not saying America should get rid of capitalism, just saying it needs a bit more of socialism.
You can't just pick and choose some parts of capitalism. You like the low taxes, career ladder, and private property... But that comes with high expenses for school and medical.
It doesn't have to is the point people are making here. So yeah, you can pick and choose those components of capitalism that work best for a society. Countries do it everyday. Otherwise all Liberal Democratic societies across the globe would have identical systems, which they clearly do not.
Those countries are also racially homogenous, only let the cream *INTO* college, and don't have as many fluff majors. They also don't have the college experience Americans expect, with sports and all that.
sweden dont have racially college. We dont even have college. People can go to whatever university they want, regardless of skincolour, race and gender. OK?
Let's tax all the people who don't go to college to subsidize the ones who want to study modern interpretive dance, community activism and gender equity studies. If you think having a college loan is bad, imagine having to share the expense of EVERYONE'S college education via taxes. Plus, do you think the price will go up or down when it's "free" to the consumer, but paid for by "the government?."
Oh god are you kidding me, as a high-school senior I can guarantee that the best schools charge at least 20k for tuition, so that usually rounds up to 35,000 a year. And oh god I would literally kill someone to not be in 100k of debt when I graduate college T.T
My original comment, if you read carefully, means that college without any education sounds pretty useless. Not that free college is useless. Hence why I included a definition of 'tuition'. I didn't say 'tuition-fee free college'. I was highlighting the error in the post, which says 'tuition-free college'.
It seems to be a trade off, do you want free tuition, or (relatively), lower taxes?
North America needs it.

But not go away completely. How else would the school get money for materials?
