That doesn't seem to happen so much with public education here.....if you cut class you get sent to a teacher supervised area to work that's seperate from classes, most of the time, and if you don't show up you start getting detentions.

You punish them with extra time in class, like detention or (I'm not sure if most schools do this) Saturday school. Then they're spending their free time working to make up for the class they cut.
