Lucky for you, DC has completely separated universes. Go pick up any Flash series at issue number one and you won't be any more lost than reading the first one ever.

Yeah exactly. Like there is an alternate universe where Bruce Wayne gets shot instead of his parents. His mom goes crazy trying to deal with the death of her son and becomes Joker and his dad becomes Batman instead.
