What are you trying to kill exactly? A medium sized country?

ISIS has grown unfortunately large.

Those rounds are also explosive. They detonate on impact for maximum effect. The A-10 warthog is a primarily air to ground fighter so having a huge cannon built right into the nose is a huge advantage. It's super long wings also allow it to hold a crap load of bombs and missles, as well as fly slow and low.

And can't it survive with half engines and a quarter of each wing blown off?

I don't see why not. The wings are huge so I guess it's possible. And almost any aircraft can survive with only one engine out of 2 as long as the pilot is skilled enough

They can also load depleated uranium rounds for killing tanks and other armored vehicles.

They can probably fire a small nuke out of that nose cannon if the scientists and engineers thought hard enough...

The A-10 Warthog is basically a giant gun with a plane built around it. There's actually more gun there than plane.

This is ISIS clever way to commit suicide. "Lets mess with the Americans. Once we do, chickening out wont be a problem AND they can do it in the dark when we're not looking."
