I'm curious as to why the bird wouldn't die from eating a poisonous snake yet if struck, it would....

because venom is bad in the bloodstream, its harmless to the gut. nearly all venom acn be digested, after digesting its no longer the original compound so its not harmful when it gets to the blood stream. that's why we have different words for venom and poison they work totally different.

The possibility of an open mouth/throat wound would be fatal which is why they usually bite the heads off before eating the rest of them
