Touchpad will never be a good substitute to mouse when you need to react quickly. I was rather thinking about standard usage or games that don't need you to act fast. For example switching tabs in a browser by taping in touchpad's corners is very comfortable.
i only use the apple track-pad for when im doing jumping stuff in minecraft. and tactical games that don't really need a mouse, such as xcom. I have a mac pro 15 inch. Just an fyi i do have a proper windows gaming computer i just use mac for the laptopness.
I guess you've never used that trackpad. It knows where you tap, how hard and how many fingers you use. It really gives a lot of options. You guys should stop hating on Apple just because it's Apple. It indeed has ovepriced products and not as many innovation as they say they have but trackpad is one of things that Apple did really good. For example I programmed it so that I can switch tabs in a browser just by tapping on of the upper corners or close an application by the trackpad twice using three fingers. It's not something you can do on a touchpad that is used in other laptops.

Knowing where you touch, with how many fingers, and programming it is something almost any laptop can do.
And even if it wasn't, how is that even remotely useful for gaming?

I never used other laptop that could do it. I see it being useful in strategy games and other that don't need user to be quick. For example there are several skills and you can set a gesture to each. Swiping right with two fingers will activate one skill, pressing trackpad with two fingers will activate other one. Seems almost futuristic as in sci-fi people often use nothing but a trackpad to use specific commands.

Macro-coding is independant of the trackpad or the system, it's just a software that translates your moves to another thing. It can be done on any device.
And for gaming, it's much better to use keyboard macros rather than trackpad.
Also, what strategy games do not need you to be quick? RTS are based on timing, aside from the pure strategy. In turn-based strategy there is near to zero need of macros..
