I got really pissed, then I got angry at Skynet

I call the self-checkout the "Fuck you, do it yourself - lane."

I realized it last night actually. Self-service machines, at least where I am, have 1 attendant for every 4 registers. They didn't remove other registers to install the self-serve ones, and some places hire new people to learn the new system rather than trying to retrain someone with the old system ingrained. It allows for more customers to be managed by the same number of employees.
