I'm not mad at those who don't use turn signals (because I leave a longer than normal following distance) as much as I'm mad at those who keep their turn signals on for over 500 feet because I have absolutely no idea when they're gonna slam on their brakes. I followed two people today (taking my sister to and from her stables) who left their blinkers on for over half a mile. So stressful trying to figure out when they were gonna turn.
Okay okay you know what pisses me off the most? People going into turn lanes. They get into the lane THEN turn on their signals, which is the reverse of what they should do. The blinker tells people that you're going into a different lane, and if it's a turn only lane then you don't need to keep it on because duh you're turning we realize that. I hate those people so much it's such a pet peeve of mine
Logically it doesn't make sense though. Turn signals are forethought, not afterthought.
Also, when people on the freeway or highway use it for one second and as they turn so there's only one blink of the light as they transition.
In Washington State you need your blinkers on 100 feet before taking action. On a freeway, 100 feet passes by real fast. That's less than 1.25 seconds needed before legally being able to merge. That's about a one and a half (on-off, on) to two blink cycles (on-off, on-off).
(I forgot we live in the same state)
But what I mean is that people, right as they merge, turn on their blinker then immediately turn it off because they're already merged. That means one blink as they turn. My dad is one of the people that do it and it just bugs me
