Um, no. It depends on how many calories they burn too. And calories isn't everything. The body needs nutrients too, and those are not, sadly, found in marshmallows.

Yes, but she's not talking about nutrients, she's talking about calories. Maybe he or she just wants to gorge on marshmallows for one day and then eat healthy the next. Please don't down vote me for saying something that is neither offensive nor untruthful. Also, even a person sitting all day watching television still burns calories so if it's kept to under about 1800 calories you would still lose weight.
1800 seems like a lot for most people, especially women...a 25 year old woman who weighs 166 pounds and is 5'4 (the averages for the USA) has a BMR of 1560 calories. A 25 year old man weighing 177 pounds who is 5'8 (the averages in the USA again) has a BMR of about 1750. Even if they were to exercise regularly, which only about 20% of people in the USA do, they wouldn't be burning much extra (only about 105 calories per mile they run, for example).
They're much less likely to exercise if they're not getting proper nutrients, too.

I'm 5'4" and maintain my weight on 2000 calories a day. If I want to lose I have to go to about 1800. Since I don't really want to lose I eat about 2000. Somedays more and some days less but it averages out. I'm also fairly active. Gym twice a week, walking and I'm a teacher of young children.

Then maybe you have a very fast metabolism....? I mean, if we're gonna use anecdotal evidence here, I'm 5'7 and maintain my weight on 1500 calories a day, roughly. I just happen to have a reasonably slow metabolism. Meanwhile, I have some 5'9 friends who eat around 2500 a day and don't gain any weight.

I never really thought about it, but I think I probably do. My older brothers are both over 6 feet and played sports, but I could eat them bite for bite. I also played sports and ran. Another reason why I can probably eat 2000 calories a day is even though I'm not fat (not skinny either) I weigh way more than somebody my size does. As a teenager I was a size 7 but weighed over 140 pounds. In college I was determined to get down to 120 but ended up in the hospital at 130 for being severely underweight and malnourished. Doctor told me never to go below 140 but aim for 150. I guess I should feel lucky.

I'm similar, actually, I weigh a lot but I fit into quite small clothes. It's just because we both probably either have fat between our muscle walls and organs (which you can't see, it's not the case for me, I know that for a fact) or we have a high muscle percentage, because muscle weighs more than fat for the same area.
They're much less likely to exercise if they're not getting proper nutrients, too.
