Hell no.
Only you can control yourself.
If you let that turn you into something terrible, that's your fault.
There is no greater cowardice than blaming the world for your shortcomings.
You and only you are responsible for your actions and your reactions. No one can make you a monster, only you can choose to become one. People need to start taking responsibility for themselves and stop blaming their actions on others.
"Personal responsibility" has unfortunately become a dirty phrase these days.

I upvoted both of you since you're right. That doesn't mean others can't contribute to that outcome, but ultimately what we become is our own choice and responsibility.
These comments are bullshit... Main reason why I don't visit this site anymore. I love this post and its a metaphor to the cruel reality many people are facing. Take your comments and shove them up your ass you close minded assholes.
Stfu fucker. This is how school shooters happen because of shitty philosophies like this. Man, people like you and the rest of the depressed "I blame the world" crowd should be rounded up in Times Square and be shot one by one infront of your whole family

I actually find the viewpoint that I am responsible for myself is empowering. It means I don't have to let the past define me. That I can leave those hurts behind. Yeah people do really cruel stuff to each other and it is horrible. I'm not saying it isn't horrible or telling someone to "just get over it," I'm saying we don't have to be a slave to what has happened before. I make the choice to be what I am, no one else makes that choice for me.

I disagree with a lot of stuff that promotes irrational behaviour, but this is something I can relate to on a personal level
Having been bullied is one thing, letting it to be "constant", is your/your friends'/family's fault

yes it does cause trauma, but that is no excuse to become a monster and traumatize others.

I'm talking about retaliating only once you've been targeted, specifically towards those who harmed you.
I apologise if I said anything that offends you, I'm just expressing my opinion!
Just because you were treated like shit doesn't mean you have to continue being shit to others. You control who you become in the end, it might be a hard road to be a whole human but it's always your choice, anything else is a cop out.
Agreed - this is like making somebody apologize for having anxiety or depression, and when they say it's not their fault they're like this, blaming them anyway

This is not about mental illness. This is somebody blaming others for their actions. Not saying the bad things didn't happen, but that can't be an excuse to behave like a monster. If this was mental illness, then he could be treated. Before you tell me I don't know what mental illness is like...yes I do. I'm bi-polar and have PTSD. Both my parents were mentally ill also. My mom was hospitalized on many occasions and my dad had schizophrenia.
