this is dumb because the only reason you think it's the boy is because they centered the picture on him and put the text around him. they are purposefully manipulating your brain into focusing on the boy, then calling you a sexist if you thought it was the boy. if they had reversed the position of the people, everyone would have thought it was the girl. this doesn't demonstrate anything.
Even then, I think the brain would still read left to right, and therefore associate it with whoever is on the left. But it would probably be a little better than this.
to properly determine if you are assuming cuz its a boy, you'd have to have girl on left and boy on right and not have one in such a clearly "i am the focus of this ad" pose.
this is very misleading and disingenuous. the positioning of the children and the fact that Alex is more common name for a boy than a girl. this is setting people up and then shaming them for a logical assumption. it has nothing to do with the accolades. what are they trying to prove?
We know its written that the girl is Alex. Because its the fucking point of the add. Except that point is obtained by manipulating you : They use text positioning, image centering , text positioning, even the fact that, although a name for both a boy and a girl, Alex is still a more common name for a boy to make you assume (LOGICALLY) that Alex is the boy.
Then they tell you Alex is the girl, and make the conclusion that you came up with Alex=boy through pure gender stereotypes instead of a logical conclusion.
Basically they are ignoring the fact that "correlation does not imply causality" : you may reach the same conclusion you'd reach with sterotypes it DOES NOT mean you have those stereotypes.
Omfg. I actually hate people for this kind of stuff. Everybody makes a huge deal out of this simple crap. They don't need to be offended by everything. I assumed Alex was the boy because of the boy's pose, and I always associate the name with the male gender.
Wow, an advertisement manipulating people's perceptions to sell an idea or product? How unusual and reprehensible, especially in the name of gender equality!
It says so
