Unpopular opinion alert!
As much as I hate cheaters, it's still really messed up to post all their info and publicly shame them. If their friends, kids etc. found out they would be unhappy with them and idk I just think it's a dick move to make.
There are also people that could actually receive real persecution. Homosexuality is still illegal in some countries, so someone who used the site for a confidential hookup could end up in jail.
No, they don't screen their members, so there are people who use it to look for non-committed sexual relationships. Is it so surprising? I bet most "legit" dating apps have plenty of particularly men looking for exactly the same thing, it's just more explicitly stated on AM because its marketing essentially removes the relationship aspect from word one.
Yeah I'm not defending the site, it's a fucking horrible idea to market it that way and I hope it falls on its ass (but don't think it will because38 million members says something about our true appetites, don't you think?).
But it's not all about shame - those people's credit cards are now floating around the deep web. That's fucking horrible too.
Single people also got their information stolen. Information such as credit card and billing address. Although we may think cheaters got what they deserved you mus think of it in this way. It's like you were a very bad person and you went to a priest for redemption but the priest gets his booth hacked and reveals your worst confessions although you got what you deserved was it still right? The priest promised confidentiality but was robbed of this promise. That's what happened with ashley madison.
I think most single people would use normal dating sites as opposed to Ashley Madison.
90-95% of users were married men/fathers while the remaining 5-10% were primarily bots and scammers, and some legitimate females. And single people looking to get involved with married people are just as bad as the cheater.

There is still some doubt about the legitness of the data. Most of it *seems* real, but there is some garbage that is clearly not.
The possibilities are:
- The hackers added garbage because (???)
- All the data is false
- Some data is from tests from AM, hence not real.
- Some people just used information that wasn't related to them - or simply not real - to avoid getting identified.
I don't think much of cheaters but hackers who try to impose their morals on others are a threat to everyone. People's personal lives are their own private business.
