People get entirely too into shows and books. Many of them also complain about real life and not having many friends. Perhaps if they devoted more time to the real world, they might make their personal chunk of it better so that they don't have to escape into fantasy as much.
Many people who spend "too much" time with books and fandoms and whatnot while complaining about not having a social life have some form social anxiety or similar antisocial behavior. (Me) if you have people like this in your life it would mean a lot to them if you gently pressure them to do social things that they're comfortable with as it helps them sheep outside of their box. Some people just really, really love Benedict cumberbatch. (Also me) at least it's not cocaine.
I don't see how being really into something is a problem. That's like saying having a passion for football is a problem. Books and TV shows are hobbies to. Some people even make a life out of them. I honestly think you're generalizing way too much.
You bring up a good point. Some people are also entirely too much into sports (watching them). It is alright to be a fan of things, but it is probably a sign of an issue if someone spends more time in things that do not directly impact their lives than in things that do. Instead of actors and athletes getting paid more in a day than most people get paid in their entire year (largely because of excessive fandom), people who actually positively impact society or the world should make more than scarcely over minimum wage.

Wow. I'm all for being into TV shows or books or videogames etc., in fact I'm often fangirling all over the place, but ignoring your friend for that is such a dick move.

Yeah, I mean, if it was like Spongebob's birthday, sure, I would make a post or something.
I would not avoid all of my friends to create a model bikini bottom in my room and dance with imaginary figures, however.
