Maybe it has more to do with the fact that she's now a successful singer and model than her looks. People back then probably didn't think she would rise to such an extent.
Why are we assuming that the only reason people would regret not dating her is because of how she looks currently? It looks as if she has a somewhat successful career, I've never heard of her but she's living a life where she gets to do what she loves...why do we automatically jump to what she looks like? If this were a guy, would we have jumped to those same conclusions? Maybe that's what the post was trying to emphasize, but that wasn't what I took away from it.

... Personally I jumped to the conclusion of looks because she looks one way on the left and a completely different way on the right. Not everything is sexist..
