There's actually a great deal of debate over dissociative identity disorder (formerly known as multiple personality) being real or not. There are people that experience symptoms of like "becoming a a different person" or memory loss after a traumatic experience but most of the famous cases involving D.I.D. have been proven to be a hoax. Like the case the movie Sybil is based off of was found to be entirely false.
