i believe that a different firm simply decided to develop a new drug and sell it for a dollar. i am of the understanding that its not developed yet. it will be a different drug for the same diagnosis so thats why the patent is irrelevant.

The chemical compound of the drug is actually pretty old, so it's more or less 'public domain', there was just no reason for another company to distribute it until now. Also, fun fact: Shkreli's response to the whole thing was "lol"
