My friend's cat stares at like I've killed someone then if I look at it she runs away then comes back later

i visited friends once, and they had these tiny dogs, don't ask me what type, some sort of poodle, i tried to pat one, they said they never let anyone else pat them, a few minutes later, 5 of them were asleep in my lap or by my side, they didn't understand why
