The thing is, she is never going to pay the money back and so he will be left with nothing but the broken life she left him. He will never be able to recover the days and dignity she stole from him.
True, you can't buy back time. Or dignity.
Even though the court eventually overturned it, you cannot buy back the knowledge that your friends/family believed that you were a rapist.

He was also an All-State football player in high school and the conviction cost him a chance to go to college on a scholarship and possibly an NFL career.

They can garnish wages if she works and obtain her assets if she has or gets any if they really want to get that money from her
In my opinion, the people who falsely accused others of rape, should spend double the time the victems did in jail, they also should be registered as sex offenders. Their faces and their names should be posted all over the town where the crime happened.
while this is great in theory, fear of being accused of lying already keeps people from coming forward. its the very reason lying about it is so despicable, because every person who lies makes actual rape victims that much more of a victim, and you cannot pass strong laws about it because they can be turned against true rape victims too.
Do you want to know why that fear exists? Not because the police outright think rape victims are lying but because they have to question to make sure shit like this doesn't happen.
what? its significantly deeper than that. its unpleasant to be questioned about it, but theres always people who will swear that so and so would never do it, he said vs she said gets really ugly and shaky "evidence" of a woman "asking for it" runs rampant.
